At the desk
Front-desk staff mark a member present from the daily attendance screen for their branch. It takes one action, and it is the fastest option when there is a queue and someone has left their phone in the car.

Self check-in by QR
Each branch gets its own check-in QR code. Print it, put it by the door, and members scan it on the way in. Nobody has to be standing there for attendance to be captured.

- No turnstile, scanner or biometric hardware required

What it is actually for
Attendance is an early warning, not a headcount
The useful thing about attendance data is not the total. It is noticing the member who used to come four times a week and has not been in for a fortnight - while they might still renew.
- Quiet members surface on the dashboard. The Needs attention panel lists members who have not checked in recently, so the drop-off is visible before the membership lapses.
- Attendance sits next to the membership. When someone checks in, their plan and its end date are on the same record - you are not cross-referencing a register against a spreadsheet.
- History is searchable. Past attendance can be looked up per member rather than scrolled through by date.
- Members can check themselves. The portal shows each member their own history, which settles most disputes without staff involvement.
